The macerator grinds down various ores into two dust. This is a form of ore duplication which can be accessed from the very early game!
You can also macerate sand to gain a single silicon dust which can then be smelted into various useful applications; notably the chip. Coal and Charcoal can be ground down into two coal dust which can be made into E-coal armor and diamonds on the compressor.
It can also grind cobblestone down to gravel, gravel to flint, dirt to sand, and all of the various ingots into their respective dusts.
